Project Overview
Due to the village’s remote location, children in Kesser Kunda have limited access to formal schooling. While a madrasa provides religious education for children in the village, the learning conditions remain modest and the available infrastructure is limited.
During consultations, residents highlighted the need to improve the existing madrasa so that children can learn in a safer and more supportive learning environment. They also expressed the importance of strengthening access to formal education within the village.
Community members therefore identified the construction of a basic school as a priority to ensure that children have can benefit from both formal learning and religious education.
Religious education plays an important role in the cultural and spiritual life of communities in The Gambia, and strengthening the madrasa alongside formal schooling helps ensure a balanced and inclusive approach to education.
The Fuladu Foundation is therefore exploring ways to support improvements to the madrasa while also assessing the possibility of supporting the construction of a school that would provide children in Kesser Kunda with access to quality education within their own community.
