Why this matters
Kesser Kunda currently has no dedicated facility where deceased community members can be respectfully kept and prepared before burial. This is particularly difficult when a death occurs at night, when families may have no appropriate sheltered space available until burial preparations can begin.
Following consultations with residents and local leaders, the community identified a modest community mortuary as its first and most urgent priority, a dedicated prayer space for women as its second priority, and improvements and fencing to the mosque compound as the third component.
This community-led initiative is being developed in close consultation with local residents and village leadership. It reflects the community’s wish for a space that is more dignified, more inclusive and better protected, while remaining practical and rooted in local traditions.
