Project Overview
Access to basic healthcare remains challenging for residents of Bajiran, particularly because of the village’s remote location and difficult road conditions during the rainy season.
During the Fuladu Foundation’s visit to Bajiran on 7 April 2026, women in the community raised an urgent concern about the local health centre. The community had already taken steps to improve the structure, including raising the walls, but the centre still needed new roofing sheets before the rainy season.
The Foundation visited the facility to understand the situation first-hand. The health centre provides important basic services to the community, including monthly services for children such as weighing, vaccination follow-up and basic outreach health care.
The visit also highlighted other challenges affecting the facility, including sanitation, lighting, basic equipment and essential supplies, as well as difficulties transferring patients to better-equipped health facilities when needed.
Roofing Support Completed
Following the request from the community, the Fuladu Foundation mobilised support for the replacement of the roofing sheets.
With contributions from two private supporters, the necessary materials were purchased and the new roof was completed in June 2026, providing the health centre with a safer and more protected space ahead of the rainy season.
The intervention built on the work already undertaken by residents and demonstrates how community initiative and external support can come together to address an immediate local need.
Further Priorities
While the roofing intervention has been completed, other needs identified at the health centre remain to be addressed progressively. These include:
- rehabilitation of sanitation facilities;
- more reliable lighting;
- basic medical equipment and essential supplies;
- improved conditions for first aid and basic care;
- possible solutions for patient transport and referrals;
- partnerships with health professionals and service providers.
Future support will depend on community priorities, available resources and potential partnerships.
Project Status
The roofing intervention was completed in June 2026. The broader effort to strengthen basic health services in Bajiran remains ongoing, with additional needs to be considered progressively with the community.
Community Benefit
The completed roof helps protect an important community facility and allows basic services to continue in a safer, sheltered environment, including the regular services provided to children.
The intervention also reflects the approach of the Bajiran programme: the community identifies and acts on its priorities, while the Foundation helps mobilise additional support where it can make a practical difference.
